Burnaby Velodrome Club Membership: 2009/2010

Membership: Please Read This First

1.

To ride at the Burnaby Velodrome, you must be a member of the Burnaby Velodrome Club a registered and insured club of Cycling BC.
In order to become a member, you have options on what kind of membership you take out.

2.

To become a member of the Burnaby Velodrome Club (Step 1), you must be fully insured ($2.0 million liability). This is typically provided by those that have a Cycling BC License or are Cycling BC members. Most competitive cyclists hold a Full Racing License ($120/yr from Cycling BC). If you do, congrats, you have insurance.

If you do not, you can either purchase one from Cycling BC directly or become an Associate Member of the Burnaby Velodrome Club and insure yourself that way ($28/yr). This insurance only covers you for the velodrome -- you cannot use this to race elsewhere (ie: you can't ride Victoria's velodrome with this coverage). You purchase this through Cycling BC, available online via the Karelo website. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASE INSURANCE THROUGH CYCLING BC BEFORE YOU GET TO THE VELODROME. It makes everyone's life easier.

For out-of-province riders, your Alberta, Ontario, Quebec or other provincial license carries the same liability insurance as Cycling BC, as it is all provided through the same insurance company organized through the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA).

3.

If you come to the Burnaby Velodrome, you will be asked for proof of your Cycling BC license/insurance coverage. This is your responsibility to provide -- we cannot have uninsured riders on the track, just like ICBC can't have uninsured car drivers on the roads.

Once you have purchased your insurance coverage through Cycling BC and become a member of the Burnaby Velodrome Club, you're good to go. Memberships come in a few shapes and sizes, suited to the odd-drop-in type of rider to the national champion in training... See below for the different types of memberships.

Associate Memberships
New track cyclists who have taken a Learn to Ride and drop-in cyclists may or may not be able to hand over $375 for the year. Our annual fees are heavily discounted based on the cost of our rent and the annual payments we have to make every year. To encourage new members and hopefully turn new members into full members, we have an associate membership fee, that makes you a member of the Burnaby Velodrome Club and allows you the opportunity to try out the track for relatively low cost. It is also necessary for the Club's insurance requirements (see below). $50 annually is the fee, then you are required to pay $15/drop-in and $10/rental bike if you do not own one. -->

Non-Riding Membership: $50 to $10,000
Friend or supporter of the Burnaby Velodrome? You can help out by purchasing a non-riding membership. This is by donation and we'll take as much as you're willing to give...

Drop-In Fees: $15
If you are just starting out and have never tried riding the track before, we have a $15 drop-in fee. Full memberships are encouraged.

Insurance

All riders are required to have insurance and have signed a waiver before riding on the Burnaby Velodrome. Insurance is provided by Cycling BC, through its affiliate clubs insurance program.

If you do not have a full Road/Track Cycling BC license that covers you for liability and sports insurance (also known as a "race license") you will need to purchase Cycling BC general liability insurance through the Burnaby Velodrome Club or online via Karelo.com. As a member of the Club, you will be insured through the Club's insurance policy with Cycling BC. This will allow you to ride on the track. Cycling BC insurance is renewed on a yearly (calendar) basis: those riders who purchased 2008 insurance will require new 2009 insurance for riding the Velodrome in January 2009 onwards. All Non-Canadian Riders must have valid UCI coverage.
