Licenses, memberships and fees

All Canadian residents must have a race license or BVC membership or Cycling BC affiliated club membership in order to race. US/foreign residents must have an international ( UCI ) race license in order to race on Friday nights or any BVC race events. Race fees are $6/night.

Start Times

Races start with Novice race at 6:30 PM and continue on as per set schedule. Sign on for races will open at 5:30 PM and close at 6:50 PM. All races will start on time and we will be vigilant in keeping on schedule. The race schedule and program is subject to change at any time at the discretion of program coordinator, race organizer or chief official.

Categories

Each Friday night we will have a minimum of two races for each category of Novice, C, B, and A. The lettered groups will be self seeded, however there may be cases where riders will be asked to upgrade or down grade by the BVC coach. The Novice category will be the mandatory starting place for two sessions for each graduate of the LTRace program. Should a ride wish to remain in Novice after two sessions that will be allowed.

Series pts

Series pts will be tallied for A, B, and C categories with all races scoring top 5 places as follows, 1st – 7 pts, 2nd – 5 pts, 3rd – 3 pts, 4th – 2 pts, 5th – 1 pt. Ties will be broken by number of wins, then seconds then thirds. Team events such as Madison will not be included in series pts.

Race Descriptions 

Pts race - winner of race determined by pts gathered in sprints at set interval 

Scratch race – winner of race is first across line after set distance 

Elimination – last rider is pulled on designated laps until winner is left 

Elimination to Scratch – percentage of group is eliminated on set laps then rest finish with determined distance scratch race 

Progressive – a Pts race where pts increase in value with each sprint 

Tempo – a Pts race where pts remain constant, except sometimes double pts on final 

Snowball – pts increase each lap or sprint for duration of race 

Keirin – riders are paced in heats behind pace bike and then left to sprint it out after bike pulls off with 500m remaining. 

Unknown distance – a scratch race where only official knows distance until bell is rung for last lap 

Pt a lap – one point given to the winner of each lap 

Win and Out – the first sprint of the race determines the winner, second sprint second place, etc. 

Madison – a Pts race with a partner. Partners race one at a time relaying or hand slinging their partner into action every 2-3 laps.
